Chuck
started playing in sax at age twelve. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and
studied with Michael Guerra. He was exposed to rhythm & blues at an early
age and became interested in jazz in his late teens. After a stint as a U.S.
Army bandsman, he spent several years traveling with various groups.
He
taught in the jazz studies program at Milwaukee’s Wisconsin College
Conservatory. While living in Milwaukee, he commuted to Chicago to study
with local tenor saxophonist, Joe Daley. Chuck remembers this conversation from
their first meeting:
Joe
Daley: "What do you play, tenor or alto?"
Chuck: "Both."
Joe: "No, you don't!"
Chuck decided at that moment to be a tenor player and has never regretted it!
After
moving to the Bay Area, Chuck was involved in many musical projects, including a
five-year performing and recording stint with Full Faith & Credit,
a 20-piece jazz big band whose recordings received international critical
acclaim.
Chuck
was a co-leader of the Uptown Express, which performed in the late
80s. More recently, Chuck was a member of the Felonious Monks Jazz
Quintet and performed at many well-known San Francisco nightspots. He is a
member of CrossCurrent, a modern and traditional jazz quartet playing
strong funk, Latin, and Afro-Cuban styles.
Chuck is also the owner of Acme Sales Automation, a Sales Force Automation (SFA) and Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) Solutions Provider.
